how weird

Over the weekend I had the immense pleasure of a last minute invite to participate in artist alley at the 2012 How Weird Festival! Basically I just showed up with my art and my magic suitcase and managed to install some pieces on the side of an empty building next door to 111 Minna (ahem, which if anyone out there has any connections I’d love to have a show there someday). The install actually ended up looking fantastic as the colors of the building and the bars, the textures of the dirt and concrete and layers of old graffiti dripping off the windowpanes seemed to blend surprisingly well with my work.
For about 8 hours straight I stood by and observed as people approached and carefully inspected each piece. Reactions ranged from quietly commenting “oooh, I really like these” or looking right at me bright-faced and asking “are you the artist?!” What commenced were what seemed like an endless supply of fascinating conversations about art, ghosts, feminism, sensuality, and mystery that are of such immense value to me. Sometimes I have a tendency to hole-up in my lion cave obsessing over my ideas and my work. Losing perspective on what I’ve accomplished can be so easy without a good supply of outside opinions. It was truly a memorable day, again with an overwhelmingly positive response and many many good ideas for the future. So THANK YOU, truly, to all who came and openly expressed their appreciation.
SO! #1 on my new list of goals to tackle will be to get prints for sale up on my website as soon as possible. That has been the most common request from just about everyone I’ve talked to lately. I’m considering doing a limited run of really nice archival prints of each piece, all signed and numbered. More details to come on that very soon as I figure out the logistics. So check back soon for news on that!
As always if you are interested in a particular piece, or if you are in need of some commissioned type work – design/painting/illustration – please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email at rococonouveau[at]gmail.com with your ideas! I’d love to hear them.
